Your Web Design
I am dedicated to creating beautiful, SEO content rich websites. This includes the informational architecture, site structure, navigation, layout, colors, and imagery. All of these are combined with the principles of design to create a website that will help you meet your organization’s vision and goals.
When building a website, I use a step-by-step process with you. This covers everything from deciding on the design, building the site and then uploading the finished product to your hosting service provider. When we meet, we can discuss this in detail.
Design is a key component in the creation of your website. When constructing a website, I consider all of the design principles (balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and unity), and design elements (lines, shapes, texture, color, and direction). By putting these together the look and feel of your site is determined.
You can be assured that your website will be unique. I use theme-based designs from WordPress, or an e-Commerce solution, then work to make sure that your website looks original by adding custom design elements.
Who is your Audience?
Knowing your target audience will help establish the key design elements as well as the appropriate content. What does your viewer do for a living? What do they like? How old are they? A site targeting senior citizens is going to give a completely different impression than one targeting toddlers. I will be sure to consider all of this while putting together the design for you.
The main difference between designing for the web and designing in print is the user’s interaction.
When designing for print, there is usually only need to design one page and draw the user’s attention to what is important. In web design, we need to design a whole site and not only draw the user’s attention, but get them to stay on your website. For example, compare an event poster and a web page. The poster is a single, stand-alone piece of paper that conveys all the information necessary for an event in a graphically pleasing way. A web page on the other hand, is not isolated but it needs to compliment the entire website.
There are several other differences that need to be considered also. For example, there is a big difference in the resolution of images from print design to web viewing. Fonts and colors may be limited with the web, and remember that your audience has different computers and there are several browsers that may see things differently.
Animation on a web page is any form of movement of objects or images. Reasons to have motion on a website are to draw attention to something important, or to entertain your viewers. The need for animation depends on the purpose of the page. Unfortunately, sometimes too much of a good thing can backfire. Sometimes animated banner ads or company logos can be irritating if they continually blink or move while your customer is trying to read the content of your page. That said, be sure to use any movement on your website in a cautious way.
Digital photo restoration uses a variety of image editing techniques to remove the visible damage, defects and aging effects from photographs. I use Photoshop to repair the images and add to a photo when a piece is torn or missing. Dirt, scratches, and other signs of photographic age can be removed manually by painting over them meticulously. I can sharpen the contrast or blur parts of the image if needed and remove unwanted color casts and shadows. I also colorize old black and white photos to make them look new.
